R.] 1941:232 [Copeia 1941 (no. 4); ref. 11741] Flood pool between 2 branches of Río Piaxtla, about 12 miles from ocean, near the town of Piaxtla, Sinaloa, Mexico. Holotype: UMMZ 133749. Paratypes: UMMZ 133750 (4). •Valid as Dorosoma smithi Hubbs & Miller 1941 -- (Branson et al. 1960:218 [ref. 41482], Whitehead 1985:237 [ref. 5141], Espinosa Pérez et al. 1993:9 [ref. 22290], Whitehead & Rodriguez-Sánchez in Fischer et al. 1995:1024 [ref. 22829], Castro-Aguirre et al. 1999:117 [ref. 24550], Kullander & Ferraris in Reis et al. 2003:36 [ref. 27061], Scharpf 2003:14 [ref. 26883], Nelson et al. 2004:67 [ref. 27807], Scharpf 2005:10 [ref. 28940], Miller 2006:93 [ref. 28615], Minckley & Marsh 2009:74 [ref. 31114], Page et al. 2013:67 [ref. 32708], Page et al. 2023:61 [ref. 40505], Fricke et al. 2024:149 [ref. 41622]). Current status: Valid as Dorosoma smithi Hubbs & Miller 1941. Dorosomatidae. Distribution: Southern North America: Pacific drainages (northwestern Mexico) endemic. Habitat: freshwater, brackish.
