Current status: Valid as Engraulis eurystole (Swain & Meek 1884). Engraulidae: Engraulinae. Distribution: Western Atlantic: Maine (U.S.A.) south to Florida (U.S.A.); eastern Colombia to mouth of Amazon River (Brazil); including Gulf of Mexico and southern Caribbean Sea. IUCN (2015): Least Concern. Habitat: marine.
