Type catalog: Paepke 1999:65 [ref. 24282]. Spelled malabarica on plate. Spelled malabar in Lacepède 1803:459 [ref. 4930]. Whitehead 1969:274 suggested a putative neotype (BMNH 1868.10.25.27). On p. 116 of Bloch's Ichthyologie, v. 12 [ref. 21381]. •Valid as Thryssa malabarica (Bloch 1795) -- (Whitehead et al. 1988:435 [ref. 5725], Talwar & Jhingran 1991:146 [ref. 20764], Bijukumar & Sushama 2000:184 [ref. 25703], Manilo & Bogorodsky 2003:S97 [ref. 27377], Psomadakis et al. 2015:159 [ref. 34104], Ali et al. 2018:309 [ref. 36183], Suresh et al. 2018:82 [ref. 36495]). Current status: Valid as Thryssa malabarica (Bloch 1795). Engraulidae. Distribution: Northern Indian Ocean: Pakistan to India. Habitat: brackish, marine.
