Syntypes: (4) BMNH 1867.11.28.78 (1); RMNH 7075 (1 or more of 7), 8040 (1). Bleeker specimens: AMS B.7475-79 (6), NMV 46047-48 (2). Original as Coïlia borneënsis. Appeared first as name only in list in Bleeker 1851:58, 60 [ref. 327], Bleeker 1851:197 [ref. 329], and Bleeker 1851:421 [ref. 16897]. Also in Bleeker 1852:437 [ref. 16827] with citation to 1852:45. •Valid as Coilia borneensis Bleeker 1852 -- (Whitehead et al. 1988:462 [ref. 5725], Kottelat et al. 1993:21 [ref. 23448], Wongratana et al. 1999:1707 [ref. 24719], Munroe & Nizinski in Randall & Lim 2000:588 [ref. 25122], Parenti & Lim 2005:179 [ref. 28285], Kottelat 2013:52 [ref. 32989]). Current status: Valid as Coilia borneensis Bleeker 1852. Engraulidae: Coiliinae. Distribution: Western Pacific. Habitat: freshwater, brackish, marine.
