Holotype (unique): SAM 13035. •Valid as Eptatretus profundus (Barnard 1923) -- (Fernholm 1986:36 [ref. 6283], Fernholm 1991:117 [ref. 20219], Fernholm 1998:34 [ref. 23976], McMillan 1999:115 [ref. 23612], Knapp et al. 2011:404 [ref. 37507], Mincarone et al. 2011:809 [ref. 31490], Mincarone 2017:9, 11 [ref. 35376], Almeida & Biscoito 2019:22 [ref. 37302], Mincarone 2022:383 [ref. 39656]). Current status: Valid as Eptatretus profundus (Barnard 1923). Myxinidae: Eptatretinae. Distribution: Southeastern Atlantic, southwestern Indian Ocean: Lambert's Bay east to Cape Agulhas (Western Cape, South Africa). Habitat: marine.
