Holotype (unique): SAIAB [formerly RUSI] 309. If treated as valid (as by Williams and Machida 1992), the species is restricted to Japan. •Valid as Carapus cinereus Smith 1955 -- (Arnold 1956:278 [ref. 5315], Olney & Markle 1986:351 [ref. 5701]). •Valid as Echiodon cinereus (Smith 1955) -- (Williams 1984:413 [ref. 6813], Hoese et al. 2006:554 [ref. 29051]). •Valid as Eurypleuron cinereum (Smith 1955) -- (Williams & Machida 1992:372 [ref. 18993], Parmentier 2012:2 [ref. 32365]). •Synonym of Eurypleuron owasianum (Matsubara 1953) -- (Markle & Olney 1990:338 [ref. 18996], Heemstra in Smith & Heemstra 1995:353 [ref. 21953], Markle in Nielsen et al. 1999:18 [ref. 24448]). Current status: Synonym of Eurypleuron owasianum (Matsubara 1953). Carapidae: Carapinae. Habitat: marine.
