H.] 1893:230, Pl. 6 (fig. 1) [North American Fauna No. 7; ref. 1627] Ash Meadows, Amargosa Desert, near California and Nevada state line, Nye County, Nevada, U.S.A. Holotype: USNM 46111. Paratypes: MCZ 35923 [ex USNM 46114] (1); CAS-SU 657 (2), 703 (3), 706 (2); USNM 46112 (5), 46113-14 (1, 6), 350556 [ex USNM 46111] (3). Type catalog: Böhlke 1953:38 [ref. 12291], Gilbert 1998:119 [ref. 23395]. Holotype established in caption for Fig. 1 in Pl. 6 if specimen can be identified. •Synonym of Rhinichthys osculus (Girard 1856), but a valid subspecies -- (La Rivers 1994:433 [ref. 23389], Gilbert 1998:119 [ref. 23395], Moyle 2002:161 [ref. 26449], Scharpf 2005:39 [ref. 28940], Page & Burr 2011:206 [ref. 31215]). •Valid as Rhinichthys nevadensis Gilbert 1893 -- (Moyle et al. 2023:517 [ref. 40044]). Current status: Valid as Rhinichthys nevadensis Gilbert 1893. Leuciscidae: Pogonichthyinae. Distribution: North America: southern Lahontan basin and desert springs and streams of Owens and Death Valley regions, Nevada and California, U.S.A. Habitat: freshwater.
