Syntypes: (several) BMNH 1935.7.14.2-3 (2). Specific name is an undeclinable noun. •Valid as Raja leopardus von Bonde & Swart 1923 -- (Hulley 1986:122 [ref. 5672], Stehmann 1990:46 [ref. 19316], Compagno et al. 1991:105 [ref. 21083], Bianchi & Carpenter in Bianchi et al. 1993:93 [ref. 25472], Stehmann 1995:87 [ref. 22055]). •Valid as Rajella leopardus (von Bonde & Swart 1923) -- (McEachran & Dunn 1998:286 [ref. 23312], Long & McCosker 1999:49 [ref. 23764], Compagno 1999:492 [ref. 25589], Compagno & Ebert 2007:135 [ref. 30471], Last & Stehmann 2008:135 [ref. 29652], Weigmann et al. 2014:383 [ref. 33443] as leoparda, Weigmann 2016:122 [ref. 34211] as leoparda, McEachran & Séret 2016:1402 [ref. 34551] as leoparda, Last et al. 2016:19 [ref. 34941] as leoparda, Last et al. 2016:345 [ref. 35000] as leoparda, Almeida & Biscoito 2019:157 [ref. 37302] as leoparda). Current status: Valid as Rajella leopardus (von Bonde & Swart 1923). Rajidae. Distribution: Eastern Atlantic, southwestern Indian Ocean: Mauritania south to Guinea; Angola south to South Africa. Habitat: marine.
