Holotype (unique): ZSI 1383/1 (lost). Holotype figured in Lloyd 1908 [ref. 20538], pls. 40-41. Reasons for loss of ZSI type specimens during WWII see Chopra 1947:349-350 [ref. 33077]. •Valid as Raja philipi Lloyd 1906 -- (Stehmann 1976:168 [ref. 7085]). •Status uncertain -- (McEachran & Fechhelm 1982:449 [ref. 8444]). •Probably a synonym of Raja powelli Alcock 1898 -- (Séret 1989:126 [ref. 12827]). •Questionably valid as Okamejei philipi (Lloyd 1906) -- (Compagno 1999:492 [ref. 25589]). •Valid as Okamejei philipi (Lloyd 1906) -- (Last et al. 2010:89 [ref. 30852], Weigmann et al. 2015:28 [ref. 33795], Weigmann 2016:116 [ref. 34211] see remarks). •Valid as Orbiraja philipi (Lloyd 1906) -- (Last et al. 2016:53 [ref. 34868] needs reassessment, Last et al. 2016:24 [ref. 34941], Last et al. 2016:315 [ref. 35000]).
