Type catalog: Nielsen 1974:23 [ref. 9588]. •Valid as Photonectes caerulescens Regan & Trewavas 1930 -- (Paxton et al. 1989:202 [ref. 12442], Gibbs & Barnett 1990:333 [ref. 14915], Harold 1999:1913 [ref. 24741], Harold 2003:912 [ref. 27001], Mundy 2005:189 [ref. 28379], Paxton et al. 2006:451 [ref. 28995], Klepadlo 2011:202 [ref. 31414] in subgenus Photonectes, Flynn & Klepadlo 2012:260 [ref. 32343], Harold 2016:1815 [ref. 34568], Prokofiev 2016:489 [ref. 34688] may be conspecific with Photonectes achirus, Koeda & Ho 2019:185 [ref. 36650], Prokofiev & Klepadlo 2019:280 [ref. 36682], Prokofiev 2019:450 [ref. 36966], Sutton et al. 2020:124 [ref. 37832]). Current status: Valid as Photonectes caerulescens Regan & Trewavas 1930. Stomiidae: Melanostomiinae. Distribution: Circumglobal; scattered localities. Habitat: marine.
