Paralectotypes: BMNH 1907.4.10.3 [ex MNHN] (1), MNHN 0000-5224 and 5225 (12). Type catalog: Bertin 1948:21 [ref. 19577]. Description very brief. Lectotype selected by Schmitter-Soto 2017:1371 [ref. 35414], confirmed by Schmitter-Soto 2021:1071 [ref. 38564]. •Synonym of Astyanax fasciatus (Cuvier 1819) -- (Buckup in Reis et al. 2003:109 [ref. 27061] with question, Mirande & Koerber 2015:2 [ref. 33698]). •Valid as Astyanax belizianus (Bocourt 1868) -- (Schmitter-Soto 2017:1368 [ref. 35414], Schmitter-Soto 2021:1071 [ref. 38564], Angulo et al. 2023:22 [ref. 40676]). Current status: Valid as Astyanax belizianus (Bocourt 1868). Acestrorhamphidae: Acestrorhamphinae. Distribution: Central America: Mullins River (central Belize), south to tributaries of Lake Izabal (Guatemala and northern Honduras). Habitat: freshwater.
