Lectotype selected by Queiroz et al. 2023:14 [ref. 40653]. •Synonym of Astyanax fasciatus (Cuvier 1819), but a valid subspecies -- (Triques et al. 2003:149 [ref. 27248]). •Synonym of Astyanax fasciatus (Cuvier 1819) -- (Buckup in Reis et al. 2003:109 [ref. 27061] with question, Mirande & Koerber 2015:2 [ref. 33698]). •Valid as Astyanax jequitinhonhae (Steindachner 1877) -- (Salgado 2021:4 [ref. 38720]). •Valid as Psalidodon jequitinhonhae (Steindachner 1877) -- (Terán et al. 2020:10 [ref. 37440], Queiroz et al. 2023:9 [ref. 40653], Zanata et al. 2024:261 [ref. 40718]). Current status: Valid as Psalidodon jequitinhonhae (Steindachner 1877). Characidae: Stethaprioninae. Distribution: South America: Jequitinhonha and Pardo River drainages, northeastern and southeastern Brazil. Habitat: freshwater.
