Based solely on illustration by Reeves (see Whitehead 1970:209, Pl. 13b [ref. 11606]). Neotype designated by Kottelat 2001:19 [ref. 25482]. •Synonym of Cyprinus carpio Linnaeus 1758 -- (Zheng et al. 1989:232 [ref. 21202], Wu & Wu 1992:516 [ref. 21205], Luo & Yue in Yue 2000:411 [ref. 25272], Barus et al. in Bănărescu & Paepke 2002:86 [ref. 25856]). •Synonym of Cyprinus carpio Linnaeus 1758, subspecies rubrofuscus Lacepède 1803 -- (Chen & Huang 1977:414 [ref. 8497]). •Valid as Carassioides acuminatus (Richardson 1846) -- (Kottelat 2001:19 [ref. 25482], Kottelat 2013:84 [ref. 32989]). Current status: Valid as Carassioides acuminatus (Richardson 1846). Cyprinidae: Cyprininae. Distribution: East Asia: Vietnam and southern China, including Hainan (China). IUCN (2012): Least Concern. Habitat: freshwater, brackish.
