Holotype: FMNH 54413 [ex CM 3035]. Paratypes: FMNH 54414 [ex CM 3036] (2). Type catalog: Henn 1928:65 [ref. 12305], Ibarra & Stewart 1987:48 [ref. 12367]. Not the same as Glandulocauda melanopleura Eigenmann 1911. See Menezes & Weitzman 2009:316 [ref. 30495] for remarks on the type locality. •Valid as Hyphessobrycon melanopleurus Ellis 1911 -- (Lima & Malabarba in Reis et al. 2003:138 [ref. 27061], Zarske & Géry 2006:47 [ref. 28750]). •Valid as Glandulocauda melanopleura (Ellis 1911) -- (Menezes & Weitzman 2009:309 [ref. 30495] in Glandulocaudinae, Thomaz et al. 2015:Add. 5 [ref. 33893]). Current status: Valid as Glandulocauda melanopleura (Ellis 1911). Stevardiidae: Glandulocaudinae. Distribution: South America: upper Tietê River basin and adjoining coastal rivers, Brazil. Habitat: freshwater.
