Lectotype: MCZ 20737. Paralectotypes: MCZ 21069 (1). Author is M. L. Durbin. Lectotype established by Eigenmann 1918:196. •Valid as Hyphessobrycon melazonatus Durbin 1908 -- (Lima & Malabarba in Reis et al. 2003:138 [ref. 27061], Barriga Salazar 2014:107 [ref. 35745], DoNascimiento et al. 2017:50 [ref. 35633]). Current status: Valid as Hyphessobrycon melazonatus Durbin 1908. Characidae: Stethaprioninae. Distribution: Amazon River basin: Brazil, Ecuador and Colombia. Habitat: freshwater.
