Paratypes: ANSP 69581-92 (12), 69593 (missing), 69594-98 (5); Géry coll. (2) [ex. ANSP 69599-600]. Type catalog: Böhlke 1984:52 [ref. 13621]. •Valid as Hyphessobrycon piabinhas Fowler 1941 -- (Lima & Gerhard 2001:110 [ref. 25355], Lima & Costa 2001:233 [ref. 25700], Lima & Malabarba in Reis et al. 2003:139 [ref. 27061], Dagosta et al. 2014:366 [ref. 33382]). Current status: Valid as Hyphessobrycon piabinhas Fowler 1941. Characidae: Stethaprioninae. Distribution: Fortaleza, Ceará, Brazil (only known from type locality). Habitat: freshwater.
