copei, Stethaprion Steindachner [F.] 1882:180 [Anzeiger der Kaiserlichen Akademie der Wissenschaften in Wien, Mathematisch-Naturwissenschaftlichen Klasse v. 19 (no. 19); ref. 20487] Tabatinga, Amazon River, Brazil. Syntypes: NMW (3, apparently lost). Species later described in more detail in Steindachner 1882:40 [ref. 14353]. •Valid as Brachychalcinus copei (Steindachner 1882) -- (Ortega & Vari 1986:7 [ref. 9708], Reis 1989:65 [ref. 14219], Reis in Reis et al. 2003:209 [ref. 27061], Barriga Salazar 2014:109 [ref. 35745], Sarmiento et al. 2014:184 [ref. 35004], DoNascimiento et al. 2017:46 [ref. 35633], Garcia-Ayala et al. 2017:570 [ref. 35695], Meza-Vargas et al. 2021:17 [ref. 39298], Garcia-Ayala et al. 2024:9 [ref. 40855]). Current status: Valid as Brachychalcinus copei (Steindachner 1882). Acestrorhamphidae: Stethaprioninae. Distribution: South America: Amazon River basin (Bolivia, Brazil, Ecuador, Colombia and Peru). Habitat: freshwater.
