Lectotype: BMNH 1895.5.17.200. Paralectotypes: BMNH 1892.4.20.36-38 (3), 1895.5.17.201-204 (4), 1895.5.17.205-207 (5). Based on the Paraguayan specimens of Tetragonopterus compressus Günther. Lectotype selected by Reis 1989:33 [ref. 14219]. Current status: Valid as Poptella paraguayensis (Eigenmann 1907). Acestrorhamphidae: Stethaprioninae. Distribution: South America: Paraguay and lower Paraná River basins: Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia and Paraguay. Habitat: freshwater.
