Lectotype: BMNH 1867.6.13.53. Paralectotype: BMNH 1867.6.13.54 (1). Also appeared in Günther 1868:239 [ref. 5756]. Species epithet is an indeclineable noun. Lectotype selected by Vari 1991:34 [ref. 19019]. •Valid as Curimata leuciscus Günther 1868 -- (Ortega & Vari 1986:11 [ref. 9708] as leucisca). •Valid as Steindachnerina leuciscus (Günther 1868) [often seen as leucisca] -- (Vari 1991:27 [ref. 19019], Chang & Ortega 1995:6 [ref. 24302], Pavanelli & Britski 1999:216 [ref. 24224], Vari in Reis et al. 2003:61 [ref. 27061], Netto-Ferreira & Vari 2011:527 [ref. 31707], Barriga Salazar 2014:105 [ref. 35745], Sarmiento et al. 2014:186 [ref. 35004], Meza-Vargas et al. 2021:15 [ref. 39298], Dillman & Vari 2024:329 [ref. 40817] as leucisca). Current status: Valid as Steindachnerina leuciscus (Günther 1868). Curimatidae. Distribution: South America: Amazon River basin (Bolivia, Brazil, Ecuador and Peru). Habitat: freshwater.
