Steindachner [F.] 1915:30 [16], Pl. 3 (Fig. 4) [Denkschriften der Kaiserlichen Akademie der Wissenschaften in Wien, Mathematisch-Naturwissenschaftliche Klasse. v. 93; ref. 4244] Rio Branco, northern Brazil. Syntypes: (several) NMW 62427 (24), 62431-32 (19, 6), 62426 (2). Originally spelled boa vistae and as a new variety. On p. 16 of separate; also described in Steindachner 1917 [ref. 15259]. Species not listed in earlier abstract [ref. 18909]. Check the spelling boavisae. •Valid as Characidium boavistae Steindachner 1915 -- (Buckup 1992:1068 [ref. 20321] as boaevistae, Buckup 1993:101 [ref. 20831] as boaevistae, Presswell et al. 2000:191 [ref. 24440], Buckup in Reis et al. 2003:88 [ref. 27061] as boaevistae, Lujan et al, 2013:456 [ref. 32922], DoNascimiento et al. 2017:34 [ref. 35633], Urbano-Bonilla et al. 2018:85 [ref. 35773] as "gr." boavistae, Agudelo-Zamora et al. 2020:260 [ref. 37476] as cf. boavistae). Current status: Valid as Characidium boavistae Steindachner 1915. Crenuchidae: Characidiinae. Distribution: Tributary of Lake Maracaibo, Orinoco River basin and northern tributaries of Amazon basin: Brazil, Venezuela and Colombia. Habitat: freshwater.
