Lectotype selected by Vari 1989:34 [ref. 13548]. Spelled amozonica but name based on "Amazons" and consistently spelled amazonica in Eigenmann & Eigenmann 1889:413 [5] [ref. 1254] (p. 5 of separate), in which the species was described again. Distribution: South America: Tocantins and Amazon River basins (Ecuador, Peru, Brazil, Colombia and ?Bolivia). Habitat: freshwater.
