amazonica, Psectrogaster Eigenmann [C. H.] & Eigenmann [R. S.] 1889:7 [West American Scientist v. 6 (no. 42); ref. 1252] Lago Aleixo, on Rio Negro, Amazonas, Brazil. Lectotype: MCZ 20312. Paralectotypes: MCZ 20178 (1), 20191-92 (2, 1), 20196 (2), 20212 (3), 20231 (1), 20242 (2), 20254 (11), 20275 (1), 20299 (now 0), 20336 (1), 58029 [ex MCZ 20312] (2); plus more at MCZ. Lectotype selected by Vari 1989:34 [ref. 13548]. Spelled amozonica but name based on "Amazons" and consistently spelled amazonica in Eigenmann & Eigenmann 1889:413 [5] [ref. 1254] (p. 5 of separate), in which the species was described again. Also, there were other typographical errors in ref. 1252, and an errata by the editor of the journal indicated that the preceding volume contained numerous errors; therefore, the spelling amozonica is considered an error that was corrected later by Eigenmann & Eigenmann 1889 [ref. 1254]. •Valid as Psectrogaster amazonica Eigenmann & Eigenmann 1889 -- (Ortega & Vari 1986:11 [ref. 9708], Vari 1989:31 [ref. 13548], Vari in Reis et al. 2003:58 [ref. 27061], Barriga Salazar 2014:105 [ref. 35745], Sarmiento et al. 2014:64, 186 [ref. 35004], DoNascimiento et al. 2017:42 [ref. 35633], Meza-Vargas et al. 2021:15 [ref. 39298], Koerber et al. 2022:25 [ref. 39235]). Current status: Valid as Psectrogaster amazonica Eigenmann & Eigenmann 1889. Curimatidae. Distribution: South America: Tocantins and Amazon River basins (Ecuador, Peru, Brazil, Colombia and ?Bolivia). Habitat: freshwater.
