Garavello & Britski in Reis et al. 2003:72 [ref. 27061] also include this species as a questionably synonym of Leporinus maculatus with same types but dating to a different reference. •Synonym of Leporinus maculatus Müller & Troschel 1844 -- (Taphorn 1992:39 [ref. 23654], Garavello & Britski in Reis et al. 2003:76 [ref. 27061]). •Valid as Leporinus marcgravii Lütken 1875 -- (Garavello 2000:199 [ref. 24492], Britski 2001:20 [ref. 26046], Garavello & Britski in Reis et al. 2003:72 [ref. 27061], Birindelli & Britski 2009:8 [ref. 30144], Feitosa et al. 2011:59 [ref. 31661]). Current status: Valid as Leporinus marcgravii Lütken 1875. Anostomidae. Distribution: São Francisco River basin, Brazil. Habitat: freshwater.
