Holotype as 30118 and paratypes as 30110-21 in Suttkus et al. 2003:356 [ref. 27531]. •Synonym of Notropis hypselopterus (Günther 1868), but a valid subspecies -- (Gilbert 1978:82 [ref. 7042], Lee et al. 1980:277 [ref. 22416], Gilbert 1998:152 [ref. 23395]). •Synonym of Pteronotropis hypselopterus (Günther 1868), but a valid subspecies -- (Simons et al. 2000:1068 [ref. 25101]). •Valid as Notropis stonei Fowler 1921 -- (Suttkus & Mettee 2001:38 [ref. 25253]). •Valid as Pteronotropis stonei (Fowler 1921) -- (Scharpf 2005:36 [ref. 28940], Page & Burr 2011:234 [ref. 31215], Page et al. 2013:77 [ref. 32708], Mayden & Allen 2015:[3] [ref. 34137], Page et al. 2023:75 [ref. 40505]). Current status: Valid as Pteronotropis stonei (Fowler 1921). Leuciscidae: Pogonichthyinae. Distribution: Eastern North America: South Carolina and Georgia (eastern U.S.A.). Habitat: freshwater.
