Lectotype: USNM 101174. Paralectotypes: USNM 27438 (3). Type catalog: Gilbert 1978:59 [ref. 7042], Gilbert 1998:109 [ref. 23395]. Lectotype virtually established by Gilbert 1978:59 [ref. 7042] since only 101174 was identifiable as maculata, "Despite its poor condition, I identify this specimen [101174] as N. maculatus... and recommend that it be chosen as lectotype..."
