Type catalog: Gilbert 1978:77 [ref. 7042], Gilbert 1998:145 [ref. 23395]. Current status: Valid as Aztecula sallaei (Günther 1868). Leuciscidae: Pogonichthyinae. Distribution: Southern North America: widespread in southern-central highlands of Mexico: Río Lerma drainage, select tributaries of the Río Balsas, the endorheic Rio Grande de Morelia basin, and headwaters of the Río Panuco. IUCN (2019): Least concern. Habitat: freshwater.
