C.] 1849:321 [Madras Journal of Literature and Science v. 15 (pt 2); ref. 4902] Mamallapuram, Tamil Nadu, India [original locality near Madras [present day Chennai], Tamil Nadu State, southern India]. Neotype: WHT 7671A. Neotype selected by Silva et al. 2010:33 [ref. 30779]. Specimen AMS B.7593, previously regarded as a non-type or syntype is not in this genus (Silva et al. 2010:45 [ref. 30779] ) •Synonym of Rasbora rasbora (Hamilton 1822) -- (Brittan 1954:42 [ref. 646] with question, Menon 1999:53 [ref. 24904]). •Valid as Rasbora microcephala (Jerdon 1849) [often seen as microcephalus] -- (Silva et al. 2010:33 [ref. 30779], Plamoottil 2016:24 [ref. 34948], Bleher 2018:752 [ref. 36647], Sudasinghe et al. 2020:22 [ref. 37702]). Current status: Valid as Rasbora microcephala (Jerdon 1849). Danionidae: Rasborinae. Distribution: Southeastern India and western Sri Lanka. Habitat: freshwater, brackish.
