Also appeared in Bonaparte 1839, fasc. 25 and pl. 110 [ref. 4895] as plebejus and in Valenciennes in Cuvier & Valenciennes 1842:139 [ref. 1009] as plebeius. Lectotype selected by Bianco 1995:307 [ref. 21944]. •Synonym of Barbus plebejus Bonaparte 1839 -- (Bianco 1995:307 [ref. 21944], Kottelat 1997:50 [ref. 22952], Bianco in Bănărescu & Bogutskaya 2003:339 [ref. 27353]). •Synonym of Barbus tyberinus Bonaparte 1839 -- (Bianco in Bănărescu & Bogutskaya 2003:427 [ref. 27353] in part, but not the lectotype).
