Syntypes: (3) BMNH 1853.12.27.5 (1 or 2), ?1866.7.12.18 (1). •Synonym of Puntius dorsalis (Jerdon 1849) -- (Menon 1999:91 [ref. 24904]). •Apparently valid as Puntius layardi (Günther 1868) from Sri Lanka but not seen in the wild since 1868 -- (Pethiyagoda et al. 2008:201 [ref. 29986]). •Valid as Puntius layardi (Günther 1868) -- (Pethiyagoda et al. 2012:73 [ref. 32071], Ren et al. 2020:[5] [ref. 37805] as cf. layardi). Current status: Valid as Puntius layardi (Günther 1868). Cyprinidae: Smiliogastrinae. Distribution: South Asia: Sri Lanka. Habitat: freshwater.
