Holotype (unique): NMW 84634. Original description with misspelling as above, later changed to "Exocoetus socotranus n. sp. (?) an E. brachysoma Blkr.?" and described in detail in Steindachner 1903:155 [ref. 15046]. •Valid as Hirundichthys socotranus (Steindachner 1902) -- (Dor 1984:61 [ref. 29757], Goren & Dor 1994:15 [ref. 25356], Golani & Bogorodsky 2010:62 [ref. 35264] uncertain status). •Synonym of Cypselurus naresii (Günther 1889) -- (Shakhovskoy & Bogorodsky 2021:380 [ref. 38589]). Current status: Synonym of Cypselurus naresii (Günther 1889). Exocoetidae. Distribution: Northwestern Indian Ocean: Gulf of Aden (if valid). Habitat: marine.
