Syntypes: (several) NMW 76300 (1). Originally as döderleinii. •Synonym of Exocoetus heterurus Rafinesque 1810, but a valid subspecies -- (Yoshino in Masuda et al. 1984:81 [ref. 6441] as doelderleini, Sokolovskaya et al. 1998:8 [ref. 24670] in genus Cheilopogon). •Synonym of Cypselurus heterurus (Rafinesque 1810), but a valid subspecies doederleinii -- (Nakabo 2000:559 [ref. 25086] as doederleini, Kim et al. 2001:102 [ref. 25722], Nakabo 2002:559 [ref. 26001] as doederleini, Motomura et al. 2010:82 [ref. 31256] as doederleini, Parin et al. 2014:193 [ref. 33547]). •Synonym of Cheilopogon heterurus (Rafinesque 1810), but a valid subspecies doederleinii -- (Kharin & Saveliev 2011:555 [ref. 32456]). •Valid as Cheilopogon doederleini (Steindachner 1887) -- (Choi et al. 2003:221, 547 [ref. 26218], Shakhovskoy & Parin 2019:4 [ref. 36674], Kim et al. 2020:79 [ref. 39118], Sonoyama et al. 2020:40 [ref. 37637]). Current status: Valid as Cheilopogon doederleinii (Steindachner 1887). Exocoetidae. Distribution: Northwestern Pacific. Habitat: marine.
