brachyrhynchos, Belone Bleeker [P.] 1854:61 [Natuurkundig Tijdschrift voor Nederlandsch Indië v. 6 (no. 1); ref. 16923] Sindangole, Halmahera, Indonesia. Holotype (unique): BMNH 1866.5.2.7. According to Collette 2003:12 [ref. 27306], the name Belone brachyrhynchos Bleeker 1854 has been considered to be a junior synonym of T. c. crocodilus by most authors including Mees (1962 [ref. 13277]) and Parin (1967 [ref. 10272]), but the presumed holotype (BMNH 1866.5.2.7) is a specimen of T. punctulatus. Rather than changing the long established name of this species, it is preferable to continue using the name T. punctulatus (Günther 1872). •Synonym of Belone marisrubri (Bloch & Schneider 1801) -- (Mees 1962:45 [ref. 13277]). •Synonym of Tylosurus crocodilus (Péron & Lesueur 1821) -- (Parin 1967:58 [ref. 10272]). •Synonym of Tylosurus punctulatus (Günther 1872) -- (Collette 2003:12 [ref. 27306]). Current status: Synonym of Tylosurus punctulatus (Günther 1872). Belonidae. Habitat: marine.
