According to Collette 2003:12 [ref. 27306], the name Belone brachyrhynchos Bleeker 1854 has been considered to be a junior synonym of T. c. crocodilus by most authors including Mees (1962 [ref. 13277]) and Parin (1967 [ref. 10272]), but the presumed holotype (BMNH 1866.5.2.7) is a specimen of T. punctulatus.
