Holotype (unique): BMNH 1871.9.13.156. Original genus is correctly Hemiramphus. •Valid as Hyporhamphus acutus (Günther 1872) -- (Collette 1974:111 [ref. 12723], Pequeño 1989:50 [ref. 14125], Goren & Dor 1994:16 [ref. 25356], Myers 1999:77 [ref. 23965], Collette 1999:2194 [ref. 24785], Randall 2007:141 [ref. 30952]). •Valid as Hyporhamphus acutus (Günther 1872), subspecies acutus (Günther 1872) -- (Parin et al. 1980:90 [ref. 6895], Randall 1999:8 [ref. 25829], Randall & Earle 2000:9 [ref. 25806], Myers & Donaldson 2003:616 [ref. 27495], Lobel & Lobel 2004:69 [ref. 27576], Collette 2004:5, 23 [ref. 27583], Randall et al. 2004:9 [ref. 27624], Randall 2005:83 [ref. 28239], Delrieu-Trottin et al. 2015:5 [ref. 33988]). Current status: Valid as Hyporhamphus acutus (Günther 1872). Hemiramphidae. Distribution: Central Pacific: Marshall Islands east to Wake Island and Easter Island, south to Gilbert Islands and Tonga. Habitat: marine.
