pacificus, Hemirhamphus Steindachner [F.] 1900:177 [Anzeiger der Kaiserlichen Akademie der Wissenschaften, Wien, Mathematisch-Naturwissenschaftliche Classe v. 37 (no. 16) (for 21 June 1900); ref. 20498] Laysan Island, Hawaiian Islands. Holotype (unique): UMB (not found). Type catalog: Wahlert 1955:326 [ref. 21527]. Original genus is correctly Hemiramphus. Species later described in detail in Steindachner 1900:511 [29] [ref. 14892] (on p. 29 of separate). •Synonym of Hyporhamphus acutus (Günther 1872), but a valid subspecies -- (Collette 1974:120 [ref. 12723], Parin et al. 1980:92 [ref. 6895], Collette 2004:6, 26 [ref. 27583], Mundy 2005:292 [ref. 28379]). •Valid as Hyporhamphus pacificus (Steindachner 1900). Current status: Valid as Hyporhamphus pacificus (Steindachner 1900). Hemiramphidae. Distribution: Central Pacific: Johnston Atoll and Hawaiian Islands. Habitat: marine.
