Lectotype: SAM 12303. Paralectotypes: BMNH 1927.12.6.13 [ex SAM] (1). Original genus is correctly Hemiramphus. Smith 1933 [ref. 12731] gives SAM 12303 as "Holotype"; this specimen is designated as lectotype by Collette 1982:720 [ref. 12729]. •Synonym of Hemirhamphus affinis Günther 1866. Not H. delagoae as treated by Parin et al. 1980:40 [ref. 6895] [= Hyporhamphus improvisus Smith 1933] (see Collette 1982 [ref. 12729]). •Synonym of Hyporhamphus affinis (Günther 1866) -- (Collette 1986:390 [ref. 5647], Collette 2004:6 [ref. 27583]).
