B.] 1933:142, Pl. 11 (fig. 1); Fig. 1b [Transactions of the Royal Society of South Africa v. 21 (pt 2); ref. 12731] Delagoa Bay, Mozambique, western Indian Ocean. Holotype (unique): SAM 16368. Original genus is correctly Hemiramphus. •Synonym of Hyporhamphus delagoae (Barnard 1925) -- (Parin et al. 1980:40 [ref. 6895]). •Valid as Hyporhamphus improvisus (Smith 1933) -- (Collette 1982:720 [ref. 12729], Collette 1986;390 [ref. 5647], Collette 2004:8 [ref. 27583], Collette 2022:362 [ref. 39718]). Current status: Valid as Hyporhamphus improvisus (Smith 1933). Hemiramphidae. Distribution: Western Indian Ocean: KwaZulu-Natal (South Africa) north to Quelimane (Mozambique). Habitat: marine.
