Syntypes: SAIAB [formerly RUSI] 127 [ex AMG] (2), 137 [ex AMG] (1); ZMA 114582 (6), ? ZMA 114584 according to Parin et al. (1980:46 [ref. 6895]). Type catalog: Nijssen et al. 1982:69 [ref. 19236]. Original genus is correctly Hemiramphus. •Synonym of Hyporhamphus capensis (Thominot 1886) -- (Parin et al. 1980:46 [ref. 6895], Collette 1986:163 [ref. 6197], Collette 1986:390 [ref. 5647], Collette 2004:7 [ref. 27583]). Current status: Synonym of Hyporhamphus capensis (Thominot 1886). Hemiramphidae. Habitat: freshwater, brackish, marine.
