Paralectotypes: BMNH 1847.4.21.77-81 (5), 1846.10.22.55-56 (2). Original genus is correctly Hemiramphus. Lectotype established by Whitley 1931:314 [ref. 4672]. •Valid as Hyporhamphus regularis (Günther 1866) -- (Collette 1974:45, 53 [ref. 12930], Paxton et al. 1989:338 [ref. 12442], Gomon et al. 1994:390 [ref. 22532], Hutchins 2001:24 [ref. 25847], Collette 2004:10 [ref. 27583], Paxton et al. 2006:737 [ref. 28994], Gomon 2008:407 [ref. 30616]). Current status: Valid as Hyporhamphus regularis (Günther 1866). Hemiramphidae. Distribution: Australia. Two subspecies: regularis from South Australia and Western Australia and ardelio from eastern Australia (Queensland south to Victoria). Habitat: freshwater, brackish.
