Bleeker specimens: BMNH 1866.5.2.92 (1); MNHN 0000-3846 (1) Borneo, 0000-3847 (1) Sumatra; RMNH 17343 [ex RMNH 7030] (14). Type catalog: Bertin & Estève 1948:52 [ref. 19574]. •Valid as Balantiocheilos melanopterus (Bleeker 1850) -- (Roberts 1989:29 [ref. 6439], Kottelat et al. 1993:32 [ref. 23448], Rainboth 1996:86 [ref. 22772], Doi 1997:3 [ref. 22832], Kottelat 2001:38 [ref. 25780], Kottelat & Widjanarti 2005:148 [ref. 28284], Ng & Kottelat 2007:13 [ref. 29118], Kottelat 2013:74 [ref. 32989], Ng et al. 2019:521 [ref. 36606]). Current status: Valid as Balantiocheilos melanopterus (Bleeker 1850). Cyprinidae: Cyprininae. Distribution: Malaya (Malaysia), Singapore, Sumatra (Indonesia) and Borneo [now extinct in many areas]. Habitat: freshwater.
