Lectotype of dovii is Poecilia gillii Kner 1863 and was designated by Poeser 2003:47-48 [ref. 26769]. •Synonym of Poecilia mexicana Steindachner 1863 in part but not lectotype -- (Poeser 2003:47 [ref. 26769], Poeser 2003:163 [ref. 26783], Poeser 2003:359 [ref. 27075] in part). •Synonym of Poecilia sphenops Valenciennes 1846 -- (Rosen & Bailey 1963:49 [ref. 7067], Lucinda in Reis et al. 2003:568 [ref. 27061]). •Possibly valid as Poecilia dovii Günther 1866 -- (Palacios et al. 2016:232 [ref. 34629] in subgenus Mollienesia). •Synonym of Poecilia gillii (Kner 1863) -- (Huber 2019:99 [ref. 36941]). Current status: Synonym of Poecilia gillii (Kner 1863). Poeciliidae: Poeciliinae. Habitat: freshwater, brackish.
