Smith 1867 [ref. 20421]. •Synonym of Oostethus brachyurus (Bleeker 1854), subspecies aculeatus (Kaup 1856) -- (Dawson 1979:473 [ref. 19285], Dawson 1986:286 [ref. 6201], Dawson 1990:661 [ref. 17542]). •Synonym of Microphis brachyurus (Bleeker 1854), subspecies aculeatus (Kaup 1856) -- (Lévêque in Lévêque et al. 1992:578 [ref. 21590]). •Synonymy of Microphis aculeatus (Kaup 1856) -- (Haÿ et al. 2023:22 [ref. 40264]). Current status: Synonym of Microphis aculeatus (Kaup 1856). Syngnathidae: Nerophinae. Habitat: freshwater, brackish, marine.
