Holotype (unique): BMNH 1917.7.14.27. •Synonym of Corythoichthys flavofasciatus (Rüppell 1838) -- (Dawson 1977:306 [ref. 7048], Dawson 1985:39 [ref. 6541], Paxton et al. 2006:815 [ref. 29073]). •Valid as Corythoichthys conspicillatus (Jenyns 1842) -- (Fricke 2004:12 [ref. 28269], Allen & Erdmann 2008:122 [ref. 29478], Kuiter 2009:192 [ref. 30404], Fricke et al. 2011:375 [ref. 31242], Fricke et al. 2014:45 [ref. 33932], Hamilton et al. 2016:Supplement 1 [ref. 35615]). Current status: Valid as Corythoichthys conspicillatus (Jenyns 1842). Syngnathidae: Syngnathinae. Distribution: Western Pacific: Queensland (Australia) and Papua New Guinea east to Austral Islands, south to New Caledonia. Habitat: marine.
