Genus originally as Melamphaës. •Synonym of Scopelogadus mizolepis (Günther 1878), but a valid subspecies -- (Ebeling & Weed 1963:19 [ref. 4616], Peden & Jamieson 1988:492 [ref. 12864], Pequeño 1989:53 [ref. 14125], McAllister 1990:131 [ref. 14674], Kotlyar 2004:7 [ref. 27590]). •Valid as Scopelogadus bispinosus (Gilbert 1915) -- (Fourriére et al. 2016:457 [ref. 34668], Del Moral-Flores et al. 2016:608 [ref. 34923], Burton & Lea 2019:55 [ref. 37205], Kotlyar 2021:3 [ref. 38100], Kotlyar 2021:807 [ref. 38954], Love et al. 2021:99 [ref. 39279], Page et al. 2023:105 [ref. 40505]).
