Type catalog: Bauchot 1970:22 [ref. 20740], with the Port Praslin specimen as lectotype. Appeared under Myripristis as "Myr. parvidens, Nob., id., 109" [= Russell 1803:pl. 109]. Described one month later in Cuvier in Cuvier & Valenciennes 1829:173 [ref. 4879] on a specimen from Port Praslin (MNHN A.2581); with Russell account referred on pp. 180-181 by name and pl. 109; it is clear from this treatment that the Pl. 109 in Cuvier 1829 should have been Pl. 104 (pl. 109 is not a holocentrid). We suggest that Myripristis parvidens Cuvier 1829 (Mar.) be treated as unavailable (characters of genus in conflict with Pl. 109) and regard the Apr. treatment as available (following current authors); an alternative is to apply to the ICZN to reject parvidens Cuvier (Mar.) 1829. •Valid as Myripristis parvidens Cuvier 1829 -- (Greenfield 1974:11 [ref. 7142], Paxton et al. 1989:377 [ref. 12442], Kotlyar 1996:88 [ref. 23292]). •Synonym of Myripristis murdjan (Forsskål 1775) -- (Dor 1984:72 [ref. 29757], Chen et al. 1990:254 [ref. 16678], Randall & Greenfield 1996:39 [ref. 22543], Randall & Greenfield 1999:2242 [ref. 24790], Randall 2005:89 [ref. 28239], Randall 2007:148 [ref. 30952], Fricke et al. 2019:82 [ref. 36673]). •Synonym of Myripristis murdjan (Fabricius 1775).
