Holotype: CAS-SU 36489. Paratypes: CAS-SU 36490 (3, now 2), USNM 130640 [ex CAS-SU 36490] (1). Type catalog: Böhlke 1953:22 [ref. 12291], Vari & Howe 1991:8 [ref. 19022]. •Valid as Astyanax superbus Myers 1942 -- (Taphorn 1992:122 [ref. 23654], Garutti 1998:121 [ref. 23797], Garutti 1999:587 [ref. 24920], Buckup in Reis et al. 2003:112 [ref. 27061], Ruiz-C. et al. 2011:51 [ref. 31365], Marinho & Birindelli 2013:46 [ref. 32569], Marinho & Ohara 2013:476 [ref. 32713], Ruiz-C. et al. 2018:22 [ref. 35787], Ruiz-C. et al. 2023:198 [ref. 40361]).
