Current status: Valid as Chasmocranus brevior Eigenmann 1912. Heptapteridae: Heptapterinae. Distribution: South America: Mana and Marowijne/Maroni River basins and Potaro River (French Guiana, Guyana and Suriname). Habitat: freshwater.
