Syntypes: CAS 62100 [ex IU 15860] (orig. 10, now 6), MCZ 31875 [ex IU 16860] (2), USNM 167811 [ex IU 15860] (2). Type catalog: Vari & Howe 1991:30 [ref. 19022]. Author is C. H. Eigenmann. Appeared first as above with brief characterization, then in Eigenmann & Pearson in Eigenmann & Myers 1929:523, Pl. 57 (fig. 3) [ref. 1263]. Current status: Valid as Moenkhausia simulata (Eigenmann 1924). Characidae: Stethaprioninae. Distribution: Amazon River basin: Ecuador, Colombia, French Guiana, Peru and Suriname. Habitat: freshwater.
