Additional original material: CAS 64589 [ex IU 15061] (14), 64590 [ex IU 15225] (1); ?CAS [ex CM 7675; IU 15223] (4), FMNH 58646-47 (2, 1) Type catalog: Ibarra & Stewart 1987:73 [ref. 12367], Ferraris 2007:421 [ref. 29155]. •Synonym of Trichomycterus punctulatus Valenciennes 1846, but a valid subspecies as described -- (Burgess 1989:323 [ref. 12860]). •Valid as Trichomycterus piurae (Eigenmann 1922) -- (de Pinna & Wosiacki in Reis et al. 2003:283 [ref. 27061], Ferraris 2007:421 [ref. 29155], García-Melo et al. 2016:237 [ref. 34471], Reis et al. 2016:17 [ref. 34496]). Current status: Valid as Trichomycterus piurae (Eigenmann 1922). Trichomycteridae: Trichomycterinae. Distribution: Piura River basin, Peru. Habitat: freshwater.
