kawamurae, Oncorhynchus Jordan [D. S.] & McGregor [E. A.] in Jordan & Hubbs 1925:128, Pls. 5 (fig. 3), 8 (fig. 5) [Memoirs of the Carnegie Museum v. 10 (no. 2); ref. 2486] Lake Tazawa, Akita Prefecture, Japan. Holotype: FMNH 58681 [ex CM 7785]. Paratypes: CAS-SU 24107 (2). Type catalog: Henn 1928:53 [ref. 12305], Böhlke 1953:14 [ref. 12291], Ibarra & Stewart 1987:62 [ref. 12367]. Thought to be extinct since WWII, but found alive in 2010 [ref. 31230]. •Questionably a synonym of Oncorhynchus nerka (Walbaum 1792) -- (Okada 1961:30 3 [ref. 6363]). •Synonym of Oncorhynchus nerka (Walbaum 1792), but a valid subspecies -- (Nakabo 2000:302 [ref. 25086], Nakabo 2002:302 [ref. 26001]). •Valid as Oncorhynchus kawamurae Jordan & McGregor 1925 -- (Nakabo et al. 2011:180 [ref. 31230], Hosoya 2011:191 [ref. 31626]). Current status: Valid as Oncorhynchus kawamurae Jordan & McGregor 1925. Salmonidae: Salmoninae. Distribution: Extinct in Lake Tazawa, but present in Lake Saiko, Yamanashi Prefecture, Japan. Habitat: freshwater, brackish, marine.
