Lectotype: SAIAB 10571. Paralectotypes: BPBM 24764 (3); CAS 57165 (2); SAIAB [formerly RUSI] 458 (1), 10527 (1), 10572 (1); SAM 30453 (2); USNM 285752 (6). Type catalog: Anderson 2018:37 [ref. 36146]. Lectotype designated by Heemstra & Akhilesh 2012:134 [ref. 32094]. Was to have appeared in Heemstra & Randall "1986" in the Ichth. Bull. Rhodes Univ., but that work apparently not published; species name dates to reference as given above. •Valid as Pseudanthias connelli (Heemstra & Randall 1986) -- (Randall & Pyle 2001:34 [ref. 25690], Heemstra & Akhilesh 2012:124, 134 [ref. 32094], Anderson 2018:37 [ref. 36146], Parenti & Randall 2020:34 [ref. 37354], Heemstra & Heemstra 2022:105 [ref. 39746]). Current status: Valid as Pseudanthias connelli (Heemstra & Randall 1986). Anthiadidae. Distribution: Southwestern Indian Ocean: KwaZulu-Natal (South Africa) north to southern Mozambique. Habitat: marine.
