Based on Plate 3, the smaller specimen should be the holotype if it can be distinguished from the slightly larger one. •Valid as Heptapterus peruanus (Eigenmann & Pearson 1942) -- (Burgess 1989:277 [ref. 12860]). •Valid as Imparfinis peruanus (Eigenmann & Pearson 1942) -- (Ortega-Lara et al. 2011:778 [ref. 31716]). •Valid as Chasmocranus peruanus Eigenmann & Pearson 1942 -- (Ortega & Vari 1986:14 [ref. 9708], Bockmann & Guazzelli in Reis et al. 2003:412 [ref. 27061], Ferraris 2007:183 [ref. 29155], Meza-Vargas et al. 2021:24 [ref. 39298]). Current status: Valid as Chasmocranus peruanus Eigenmann & Pearson 1942. Heptapteridae: Heptapterinae. Distribution: South America: upper Amazon River basin (Peru). Habitat: freshwater.
